FBI and CISA on a joint note issued a public alert that computer networks of government and corporate companies were on the verge of being targeted by a cyber attack on this coming Labor Day weekend, i.e on September 6th of 2021.
So, companies are being urged to step-up their security of systems proactively to safeguard their IT Infrastructure from potential data breaches from cyber attacks.
“Ransomware has emerged as a major national security threat and has so far targeted many large companies serving public. This includes the Colonial Pipeline Hack, JBS meat cyber attack and Kaseya ransomware attack”, Eric Goldstein, Executive Assistant director for Cybersecurity at CISA.
Eric said that the collaboration with FBI to ensure timely and actionable advisories to companies by strengthening their cyber resilience is commendable and added that all organizations must continue to be vigilant about the threat alert.
Not paying a ransom when targeted by ransomware is being suggested to victimized companies as it not only encourages cyber crime but also doesn’t guaranty a decryption key for sure.
Coming to the news about the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, reports are in that the ombudsman received over 791,678 complaints related to internet crimes in North America for the year 2020 and the loss gained from cyber crime to businesses is estimated to be at $4.1 billion.
And FBI added that Conti, Pysa, Lockbit, Ransomware EXX, Zeppelin and Crysis/Dharma/Phobos were found targeting most of the corporate networks.
