Apple Inc has announced that it intends to improve the work functions of its CarPlay feature by offering sophistication to access car climate control abilities, changing radio stations, changing seat settings, speedometer and other such crucial vehicle data in near-time.
The aim behind the newly developing tech is to make the life simple of iPhone users by having the ability to remotely control the functions of their car through CarPlay.
But like every other new technology, the innovation is also stacked with some privacy related issues like what if the iPhone is intercepted by a hacker that then allows the criminal to access controls of the car?
Technically, CarPlay is available in almost 800 models, including Audi, BMW, Ford, Toyota, Renault, Nissan n such. And its usage stats depend solely on automaker that the iPhone owner owns.
Apple has come up with a new feature dubbed ‘IronHeart’ that will help gather info and take control of car settings such as outside and inside temperatures, fuel gauge, speedometer, AC functions, fans, defroster, volume of speakers and to a certain extent the cruise control feature as well.
Engineers from the American tech giant argue that such new innovations will improve the way its users lead their day-to-day life. In fact, it will allow drivers to lead a smarter, safer and do more with their communication oriented gadgets.Â
However, what if the tech falls into wrong hands? It can be used by the hacker to take control of a vehicle causing harm to the vehicle occupants and sometimes leading to their death.
In 2017, Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple Inc, announced that his company was planning to design and develop its own car, in-lines with the Tesla Models.
So it seems to have started the work now by first expanding the functions of its CarPlay features and then integrating into the work model that is said to hit the roads by 2023.
