Cyber Attacks as Hybrid Warfare

1405

United States is interested in seeking an international strategy to tackle AI based cyber attacks that are leading to hybrid warfare. However, Antony Blinken, the State Secretary said that it is not an easy task to deal and warned Russia to mend its ways when it comes to cyber warfare that is being backed by artificial intelligence.

Mr. Blinken’s remarks came amid raising concerns about ransomware attacks on critical infrastructure such as the recent Colonial Pipeline Cyber Attack and JBS Meat Attack.

Reiterating the message passed on by Joe Biden to Vladimir Putin over a telephone call, Mr. Blinken stated Kremlin was indulging in sophisticated cyber attacks that can lead to disorganization and permanent destruction of the nation’s economy via ‘ Hybrid Warfare’.

Adversary nations are launching attacks, both with conventional and unconventional tactics, to achieve political motives. Often it is hard to track down a culprit in hybrid warfare as nations indulging in such acts will use non-state actors to easily deny any kind of responsibility if/when caught, added Mr. Antony Blinken.

Here, hacking groups dubbed ‘Lone Wolves’ that are funded by hostile governments play a vital role in dislodging critical infrastructure via digital attacks. Nations such as Russia, China and Iran are found nurturing such Lone Wolves to create political, social and economic unrest just to support their geopolitical ends.

So, is there any strategy to deal with such attacks…?

Well, as of now, the only way to deal with such attacks is through discussions, info share, strategies and strict cooperation. But will the two nations from Asia support the Western Countries on this note…?
