Apple Inc, the iPhone maker from America has decided to wage a war against the use of passwords by releasing a new tech for security authentication. Dubbed as PassKeys, the new tech will eliminate the need for users to remember passwords for online service usage.
Precisely speaking, the company is planning to replace the use of password induction technology with the functionality of FaceID recognition or TouchID recognition while signing up for various online services. It will be done with the help of Cryptographic keys- one public and the other private. And as expected the private key will not be sent to the server which in turn will make the user invisible to hackers who are on the constant lookout for taking control of the credentials for making a discrete entry.
The aim is to do away with move beyond passwords and rely on a much secure technology that will be presented as a new feature on iOS 15 and macOS devices.
Apple plans to implement this password-less tech only on its devices to help protect the stored information from various data hacking attempts.
Note 1- In Feb’2020, Apple joined FIDO Alliance and has pledged to replace passwords with much more secure and reliable technology dubbed as ‘WebAuthn’. And in the coming days, the effort will be supported by all major firms such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Facebook.
