Akasa Air, an Indian airliner that started flying services recently, is in news for wrong reasons. The airliner, that truly stands as a low-cost carrier, has suffered a data breach as per a report released to Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT- In).
The incident took place on August 25th, 2022, leaking details such as email addresses, gender, name, phone numbers, and contact addresses. Other sensitive details such as identity information and travel info along with payment card info were not leaked in the attack, as it was being stored on a separate server.
Anand Srinivasan, the founder and CIO of Akasa Air, released a press statement acknowledging the incident. He also announced that the company has taken all cybersecurity measures to prevent such data leak in the future.
Anand’s statement also included the fact that the company self-reported the incident to the cyber governing authority and will notify all the affected users about the data loss.
Coming to the second news, it is related to cyber attack on an Indian telecom company named Vi aka Vodafone +Idea. A Cybersecurity firm named CyberX9, alleged that it has data related to a telecom provider Vi that contains sensitive details such as demographics, call records, phone numbers, internet usage, credit limit of over 301 million customers.
Interestingly, the details also include contact information related to over 20 million postpaid customers, meaning those paying a monthly bill.
CyberX9 claims that the Vi data breach info was available to it, after it purchased it from a tech forum where a group of hackers kept it for sale.
Vi has completely denied the news related to data breach and denied mishandling its users’ personal data.
Security experts state that Vi data breach can lead to cyber incidents such as identity thefts, phishing, business email compromise, scams, extortion, and IT scams can also deteriorate further.
