AI and Cybersecurity: Unveiling NSFOCUS’s Innovative Edge at HKIB Cybersecurity Solutions Day 2024
On March 15th, the Cybersecurity Solutions Day event, organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers (HKIB), officially commenced. The event focused on addressing the increasingly complex cybersecurity environment influenced by AI technologies, gathering globally renowned information security vendors and experts to discuss new trends and models driven by AI in cybersecurity.

Financial institutions have always been a primary target for cyber attacks. With the further popularization of digital transformation in the financial industry, the construction of its data security protection system has become increasingly challenging, especially in areas such as data privacy, data ownership, and data compliance. Dr. Richard Zhao shared his thoughts on the development of AI and large model technologies during the panel discussion titled “Setting the Scene: The Cyber Threat Landscape and Things that are Shaping the Future of Cybersecurity.” He engaged in dialogue with Mr. David Chan, Chief Information Security Officer of Hang Seng Bank; Mr. Frank Chow, Vice-Chairperson at the Professional Information Security Association (PISA), Eva Kwok, Head of Cybersecurity Hong Kong and Senior Managing Director at FTI Consulting, and moderator Damian Bierman, Managing Director APAC and Co-Founder at Blackwired Pte Ltd.
Taking Deepfake technology as an example, Dr. Zhao discussed the illegal activities of fraud and defamation using AI face swapping and voice changing. He pointed out that identity theft, impersonation, and the spread of misinformation pose threats to the banking and finance industry, as well as national and public security, necessitating heightened vigilance and strengthened defenses.
Additionally, Dr. Zhao mentioned the recently debated first-generation generative AI worm “Morris II,” which can independently propagate between generative AI service systems, steal data, and send spam emails. It has breached the security measures of ChatGPT and Gemini in experimental environments, challenging existing security models. The widespread use of AI has provided cyber attackers with opportunities, continuously leading to new security issues such as data poisoning and large model theft. These trends further underscore the importance of enhancing security awareness and taking proactive security measures.
