DDoS attack hits Mastodon, the Twitter rival

As soon as Tesla Chief Elon Musk took over the reins of Twitter in the October 2022, many users who weren’t happy with his takeover jumped to Mastodon, a Germany-based social media platform. The aversion was such that the user account based on the Germany social networking service increased from just 50,000 to 5,00,000 in a span of just 10 days.

Now, information is out that someone appears to have launched a Distributed Denial of Service Attack (DDoS) on Mastodon. The bombardment of fake web traffic was such that the server or two of the platform got disrupted due to a sudden spike in web traffic deluge.

Coincidentally, for the past few hours, twitter users were also seen complaining on the web about the problems being faced when clicking web links and failure to open images in their timelines.

Although the tech giant resolved the issue mainly seen in Europe and Asia, some are still complaining about inconsistence in fixing other posting errors of tweets.

What differentiates Mastodon from others?

Well, let’s do some marketing as the platform deserves what is it in real! It is basically a decentralized social network, where users are provided server resources for specific themes, topics and their interests.

The company was existing since 2016. However, for an unknown reason, people from Twitter started shifting their likes towards Mastodon and it picked up enormously and rose to fame within no time after November 2022.

Almost every celebrity with a blue tick mark has taken an account of the decentralized service and the growth seems to be still going on……

Based on the current market flow, it is tough to predict whether they said business has the stance of touching Twitter in trade revenue. However, who knows what’s in the future for this free and open-source software?
