Sorry Al; Diversity Built the Internet

Sorry Al; Diversity Built the Internet

Diversity is the key to Innovation, not Money.

Thank you, Mr. Gore, for being one of the chief supporters of helping make the internet much more significant, better, and globally usable. However, the Internet has been around longer than most people realize.

The early conception of the internet was driven by the need for people to communicate in case of nuclear war. The need to communicate globally among diverse groups is the reason for the Internet. Learning to share with anyone, anywhere and anytime, regardless of what part of the world they are from, is the Internet.

Communication promotes knowledge sharing. Sharing of knowledge fosters collaboration. Collaboration promotes trust. Trust promotes innovation. Innovation promotes change.

Trust means we accept others even though they are not like us. They look different. They speak in a foreign language and prefer their customs and processes on how to get things done.

Collaboration promotes the willingness to accept a mutually shared process for the good of the cause that will benefit others.

The diversity of people built the Internet, and diversity is what makes the Internet better. When do people resist diversity? It promotes more trust and acceptance.

Having a diverse group of people means you are willing to listen, argue, agree, and collaborate based on mutual respect and a greater understanding of the need for innovation to make things better.

Making things the old fashion way or keeping things as is only promotes commoditization, low profits, and an unbalanced sense of wealth.

Money does not drive innovation. Consider how much-wasted capital went into ideas that never came to market. Billions of dollars in VC funds were lost to bad ideas, corruption, and doing things old-fashioned.

Diversity through people, not money, is today and the most significant innovation for the future.
