The Human Behavior Conference: The Future of Social Engineering

In 2019, we announced the Human Hacking Conference (HHC). HHC taught business, security, technology, and psychology professionals the latest techniques and tips from leading experts in their fields. As much as we love the HHC, we see the need to adjust the focus of the conference. Therefore, we are excited to announce that the HHC will now be known as the Human Behavior Conference (HuBe).

Why the Change?

Changing the name of our conference was not a decision that we made lightly. The HHC enjoyed 2 successful years, and we were proud of what it accomplished. However, we listened to our attendees and our followers on social media. We also listened to the feedback we received from those who had hoped to attend but could not.

After collecting all the data, we came to a specific realization. Social engineering needs to go beyond cybersecurity and penetration testing to a holistic, human-centered focus. It needs to teach people not only how to protect themselves, but how to better their own function within society. Now more than ever, people are searching for ways to improve meaningful communication skills, and to better themselves. We believe this is the future of social engineering and we are ready to meet it. When discussing the name change, HuBe founder Chris Hadnagy said, “We wanted to change the name to capture the essence of our conference and its goals. My hope is that the new name attracts people who are interested in learning how to communicate better and understand human behavior.”

As you can see, these are exciting changes, but for now…we have teased you enough! Let’s break down what you can expect at the Human Behavior Conference 2022!

New Track = New Trainers

We are excited to welcome not only new trainers for the Human Behavior Conference, but also a brand-new track, the “Social Psychology” track. This new track features amazing trainers who will break down social interactions, including their origins and their effects on people. We are excited to announce that Amy Herman and Cortney Warren will be among the trainers for this new track!

Jessica Barker

Dr. Jessica Barker is a popular keynote speaker and an award-winning global leader in the human side of cybersecurity. Known for her ability to engage everyone from senior executives to ethical hackers and creative workers, she brings energy, enthusiasm, and fun to cybersecurity. In addition, she is also well  known for her expertise in cybersecurity awareness, behavior, and culture. This made her the perfect candidate to teach, Bye-Bye Bias? Understanding Human Heuristics to Extend Empathy, Increase Influence and Rebalance Resilience. What is human bias and how does it impact our everyday lives? Can we recognize when we are acting on ‘autopilot’ and slow down our thinking? How can we ‘hack’ our own human heuristics to be kinder to ourselves and others? Jessica’s course will break down the answer to these questions and help you become more empathetic, influential, and resilient.

Amy Herman

Lawyer, art historian and TED speaker; reading Amy Herman’s biography is both intriguing and fascinating. But are you wondering what this has to do with social psychology? Amy uses her love of art to sharpen observational and communication skills. Her course, The Art of Perception: Seeing What Matters Now, is a highly participatory and exciting presentation. By using works of art, Amy demonstrates the necessity for astute visual literacy. See for yourself how analyzing pieces of art can sharpen the way you see situations and how you communicate.

Cortney Warren

Dr. Cortney Warren is a board-certified clinical psychologist, as well as an expert on eating disorders and addictions. Dr. Warren has also intensely studied self-deception. In her TEDx talk, Honest Liars: The Psychology of Self-Deception, she contends that self-deception is our biggest obstacle to life fulfillment. Her course, The Psychology of Self Deception, is designed to help her students do 3 things.

  1. Learn how you and others lie to themselves
  2. Discover why we lie and how it hurts us
  3. Leave knowing how to become more honest

Please Note: This course is not a therapy session. Rather, it is designed to help all in the audience with their careers, communication, and ultimately their happiness.

Returning Trainers

We are also welcoming back trainers who will, yet again, provide their wealth of knowledge to our HuBe attendees. In case you are wondering who they are, we will introduce them to you.

Joshua Bitton

Joshua Bitton is one of the most sought-after acting/dialogue coaches in Los Angeles. He is also an actor in his own right, acting in a plethora of plays, TV shows, and movies, too. Joshua has also influenced and coached some of the biggest names working today. How do some of the world’s greatest actors seem too “live” their characters on screen? What makes some performances seem more authentic than others? It is all about reacting instinctively to their surrounding environment, especially the person they are communicating with. Joshua’s workshop How to React by Instinct, will be a two-day workshop on how to apply the Meisner acting technique to daily communication.

Robin Dreeke

What can we say about Robin Dreeke that has not already been said. He is a best-selling author, professional speaker, trainer, facilitator, and a retired FBI special agent. Since 2010, Robin has worked with large corporations as well as small companies in every aspect of their business. Robin takes his life’s work of recruiting spies and uses it to break down the art of leadership, communication, and relationship building. His course, Persuading the Reluctant and Skeptical: Tools from a Master Spy Recruiter focuses on the elements of his success, some of which involve rapport, trust, and assessing others.

Ryan MacDougall

Ryan MacDougall is the COO of Social-Engineer, LLC and runs operations during penetration tests and exercises with clients, including Social-Engineer Phishing Services. This made him the perfect trainer for the Phishing through Applied Social Engineering course at HuBe. This course is designed to help security experts refine their approach to social engineering. Throughout this 3-day training event, you will apply human behavior science to create phish baits that make people want to bite the hook, so you never need tactics of fear or intimidation. You’ll learn how to shape the entire job around the simple premise that you can leave people better—even when they’ve been taken in by your phish. The class includes technical and practical components, allowing you to test your phishing designs on targets, interpret feedback on the efficacy of the attack, and provide stakeholder recommendations for addressing the vulnerabilities your phish attack revealed.

Joe Navarro

Joe Navarro is a good friend and mentor to the HuBe team; he also has a very impressive resume. Joe spent 25 years as an FBI agent specializing in counterintelligence and behavioral assessment. He is also the author of 14 books in 29 languages, all dealing with human behavior and body language. In Joe’s course, Putting Nonverbal Communication to Work, he will explore how nonverbals are used in business to better read and decode others. By focusing on how the body communicates, the attendees will examine which nonverbals matter the most, their priority, and how they can use them quickly to help enhance communication.

Anne-Maartje Oud

Anne-Maartje Oud is a behavioral advisor/consultant, trainer, chairperson, and keynote speaker, with 20 years of experience. She is the CEO and founder of The Behaviour Company, based in Amsterdam, customizing personal development programs for companies and organizations worldwide. Her course, A Behavioral Approach to Critical Communication, covers the things that impact regular communication and how to overcome them. This interactive session defines and dissects a variety of critical communication and the need for planning and execution of skills that will help you communicate effectively.

Bonus! Joe and Anne-Maartje will join forces to teach the course, Identifying and Interacting with Difficult Personalities. Over the course of 3 hours, they will teach separately and together to cover this fascinating and time-worthy topic. This course is ideal for anyone who works with people, so it is good for HR, management, social work, security, and anyone in between. A copy of the book Dangerous Personalities will be required for participants, as the book will be a key foundation of the course.

Ian Rowland

Ian Rowland is truly unforgettable. Those who meet him never forget the experience. Ian is a London-based professional writer who provides a wide range of writing services for companies and private clients alike, and has also published several books. Ian will bring his course, Cold Reading for Business, to HuBe, showing how you can adapt cold reading techniques to other contexts. For example, running a business, selling, negotiation, and managing people. This practical, hands-on course will give every attendee the opportunity to immediately practice what they are learning.

R.Paul Wilson

R Paul Wilson has executed more con games than almost anyone in history and is the foremost expert in cons and scams. So, what is he doing at a human behavior conference? Paul’s extensive knowledge of how con artists think and act when manipulating their victims is social engineering at its most powerful and dangerous. Paul’s course, The Magic Way, is a unique training meant for those who are not magicians, but who want to understand and apply these communication skills. He will unravel magicians’ methods to reveal a way of thinking that will inform and inspire fresh solutions and ways of communication in any field. Exclusively for the HuBe conference, he will reveal how magicians solve impossible problems using simple methods to shape reality, read minds and even control how people think and what they remember.

HuBe — Where? When?

When asked what he is excited about for this year, Chris gave us some things to look forward to. “This year we are focused on bringing true science to everyday people in understanding all aspects of behavior and communication. I am excited to have some of the most amazing people at this conference. There are so many, but I cannot wait for some of our new folks like Amy Herman, and Cortney Warren.”

The Human Behavior Conference will be held in person in Orlando, Florida! Safety measures and protocols for COVID-19 will be forthcoming. But for now, make sure to mark your calendars for March 24-26, 2022. Tickets are now available on our website www.humanbehaviorcon.com.
