Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Update won't offer optional updates in December, with the software giant only focusing on security updates due to the holiday season.
That means Windows 10 and all supported versions of Windows 11, including Server versions, and even Windows 8, won't get additional updates this month.
It is important to understand that this only applies to optional updates, and not security fixes which were already released on Tuesday. For those unaware, Patch Tuesday is the day when the tech giant releases its monthly security rollup.
“Because of minimal operations during the holidays and the upcoming Western new year, there won’t be a non-security preview release for the month of December 2022. There will be a monthly security release (known as a “B” release) for December 2022. Normal monthly servicing for both B and C releases will resume in January 2023,” Microsoft said.
Microsoft mentioned that updates would resume in January, so there won't be significant bug fixes in January's Patch Tuesday update. That's because Patch Tuesday includes security fixes as well as fixes from the previous optional updates.
It is worth mentioning that optional updates generally mess up the operating system and it's actually better to avoid such updates if you can.

My PC is scheduled to resume updates in February. I haven't updated since October.
I'll likely continue to pause updates until meaningful updates become available.
