Windows 11

Microsoft has released the Windows 11 KB5034123 cumulative update for versions 23H2 and 22H2 to fix a variety of issues, including a potential Wi-Fi bug that was fixed in a KIR last month.

You can install the new update by going to Start Settings > Windows Update and clicking on 'Check for Updates.'

As this update contains the Microsoft January 2024 Patch Tuesday security updates, KB5034123 is mandatory for all Windows 11 users unless you delay its installation.

What's new in the KB5034123 update

After installing the KB5034123 update, Windows 11 23H2 will be will have a build number of 22631.3007 and Windows 11 22H2 will be build 22621.3007.

This update fixes a known problem affecting certain Wi-Fi adapters that experienced connection issues after installing the previous KB5032288 or KB5033375 updates.

This was more likely to occur on networks using 802.1x for authentication, a common setup in enterprise environments. It's worth noting that this issue was less likely to affect home networks.

Other improvements in the update include:

  • This update addresses an issue that causes your device to shut down after 60 seconds. This occurs when you use a smart card to authenticate on a remote system.
  • This update addresses an issue that affects the display of a smart card icon. The icon does not appear when you sign in. This occurs when there are multiple certificates on the smart card.

As always, you can expect the typical security fixes in the update.

At the same, Microsoft has also warned users of multiple issues in the patch, including a bug that causes icons to appear incorrectly when using Copilot on multiple displays and color correct issues.

Microsoft will fix these issues in later updates.
