A massive Rogers outage is causing widespread disruption in Canada due to lack of mobile service, inability to process payment card transactions, and impacting 911 emergency services.

According to DownDetector, the outage started at around 5 AM EST, with customers suddenly unable to make phone calls or connect to the Internet.

The is causing widespread impact, with Internet monitoring organization NetBlocks saying that it has caused a 25% reduction in network connectivity for Canada.

The outage also impacts emergency 911 services in portions of Canada, forcing police departments to tweet [123] alternate methods of contacting them in case of an emergency.

CBC reports that the outage is affecting banking and financial transactions in Canada, with ATMs and credit card/debit card transactions not working.

At this time, Rogers has confirmed the outage but has not provided any status as to what is causing the connectivity issues and when it is expected to be restored.

Rogers has also added a banner to their website stating, "We know how important it is for our customers to stay connected. We are working to resolve the network issues as soon as possible. We will continue to keep you updated."

Update 12:00 PM EST: Rogers posted another update simply stating that they are suffering a wireline and wireless outage but have not provided any details on what is causing the outage.

Update 10:00 PM EST: Rogers has issued another update stating that services are starting to recover. There is still no information as to what caused the outages.

"Our wireless services are starting to recover and our technical teams are working hard to get everyone back online as quickly as possible. As our services and traffic volumes return to normal, we will continue to keep our customers updated. As previously announced, we will be proactively crediting all customers and will share more information on that process soon." - Rogers

Update 10:50 PM EST: Rogers CEO Tony Staffieri posted a blog post apologizing for the outages and saying that they are still investigating what happened. There are still no technical details provided.

Update 7/9/22 8:00 AM EST: Rogers has released the following statement saying that services should be restored for the majority of customers. Still no explanation as to what caused the outage.

Following our previous updates, we have now restored services for the vast majority of our customers and our technical teams are working hard to ensure that the remaining customers are back online as quickly as possible. As our services come back online and traffic volumes return to normal, some customers may experience a delay in regaining full service. Once again, we sincerely apologize for the disruption this has caused our customers and we will be proactively crediting all customers.
