Microsoft says the Xbox Live services are currently down in a major outage, impacting customers worldwide and preventing them from launching or buying games.

According to user reports, the online gaming platform has been down for at least three hours, blocking them from playing both offline and cloud games.

"We're aware that some users are unable to purchase games, launch games or start Cloud Gaming sessions. Our teams are investigating," the Xbox Support explained.

The Xbox status page says Xbox services impacted include Games & gaming, Cloud gaming & remote play, and Store & subscriptions.

This major outage affects multiple platforms and it applies to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One consoles, Android devices, Apple devices, Xbox on Windows, and cloud gaming.

Xbox outage

"You may have problems playing your digital games right now. You may not be able to buy games to own right now," the Xbox status page now reads.

"You may have trouble starting cloud games or be unexpectedly disconnected from a game after it begins."

While the Xbox team said two hours ago that customers should once again be able to launch and play their games on Xbox consoles and through Cloud gaming, the cause behind this outage was not properly addressed.

Downdetector received thousands of service issue reports during the first outage stage and tens of thousands during the second wave of reports.

Update: Xbox Live should be up again according to a statement issued one hour ago.
