The LockBit Locker group is known for using a combination of advanced techniques, even phishing, and also social engineering, to gain initial access to a company’s network. However, the company was able to restore its network from backups and no client workstations were affected during the intrusions.

The ZeroAccess botnet, discovered in 2011, hit systems hard with fraudulent advertising clicks and Bitcoin mining malware, infecting at least 9 million computers worldwide. The rootkit itself was spread through a number of infection vectors, most notably social engineering and exploit packs like Blackhole.
