As is often the case, the cost of restoring files from backups can amount to more than paying the ransom. This is quite a feat as it was only first discovered in mid-august 2018. Backups aren’t working. Restoring from backup is certainly preferable to paying the bad guys for the damage they have inflicted.

With what we experienced in 2016 and 2018, is there any doubt there will be a rise in disinformation–homegrown and imported–of all stripe in the upcoming elections? We will also see better backup practices that will help minimize or neutralize the threat of these attacks. . The disinformation blob will grow.
